The right caravan for your next trip

Choosing the right caravan depends heavily on your individual travelling habits, space requirements and desired level of comfort.

Families:
Families with children need a caravan with a spacious interior, several fixed sleeping berths and well thought-out storage space solutions. Models such as the Camper or the Nomad offer practical layouts with bunk beds, large seating lounges and plenty of space for luggage, toys and leisure equipment. With the c'go up Active, the model range even includes a model with a pull-down bed. A spacious family caravan for up to seven people.  Particularly important: a functional kitchen, a fully equipped bathroom and sufficient freedom of movement - even in bad weather.

Couples:
Couples travelling alone often value compact external dimensions, a pleasant spaciousness and well thought-out functionality.
The c'go Active or the particularly lightweight c'joy Active are popular choices here - they are easy to manoeuvre, are quickly ready to travel and still offer comfortable equipment for relaxed short trips or weekend tours. With clever details such as a comfortable seating lounge or flexible bed solutions, every square metre is used optimally.

Long-term travellers & year-round campers:
If you don't just use your caravan for a summer holiday, but see it as a second home for a while, you need more than standard. The Beduin Scandinavia is made for people who value real living comfort when travelling: with a well thought-out design, excellent insulation for winter temperatures, generous space and a stylish, Scandinavian-inspired interior.
A caravan for those who love freedom - but don't want to compromise on anything.

Dethleffs caravans - your home while travelling

A caravan is more than just a means of transport with a bed. It is the place where your holiday begins - and ends. Where people cook, play, read and sleep. With a Dethleffs, it becomes more than just camping: a living space that travels with you.

Whether compact or spacious - our caravans offer you well thought-out solutions for the kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area. For journeys that feel like home. Just more free.

  • Dethleffs Plus factor: Cooking with a view

Good food is simply part of a successful trip. Therefore, cooking should be fun on camping holidays. That's why the kitchens in Dethleffs caravans are thoughtfully designed, of high quality and fully functional - for moments of enjoyment, big and small, while travelling.

Whether it's a quick breakfast by the lake or a multi-course dinner at the campsite - no problem in our kitchens.

  • Small format. Large kitchen: Welcome to the compact class

Our compact models, such as the c’joy Active , offer more than you might expect at first glance. A 3-burner gas hob, a well thought-out integrated sink, a surprisingly large fridge - everything you need for your everyday culinary life on the go is there.

And the c’go Active is even more convenient: generous drawer pull-outs with soft-close mechanisms ensure tidiness, a clear overview and pleasantly quiet closing - even when cooking gets a bit turbulent. Here, compact does not mean sacrifice, but smart use of space with style.

  • More space, more enjoyment: Kitchens of the middle class

In our mid-range models - such as the Camper or Nomad - cooking becomes a pleasure. More space, more organisation, more possibilities: A cleverly positioned hob/sink combination creates a generous work surface on which you can easily work with a pan and pot at the same time. The electric ignition and the particularly stable pan supports ensure safe, convenient cooking - just like at home.

Generous drawers with soft-close mechanisms, practical apothecary-style drawers (depending on model) and a 137 litre fridge / freezer combination not only offer plenty of storage space, but also a real overview. From coffee mugs to pasta supplies, everything has its place here.

  • The taste of travelling: First-class kitchen comfort

For all those who don't want to miss out on stylish cooking moments when travelling: In the Beduin Scandinavia, the kitchen unit becomes a real island of pleasure. With high-quality materials, well thought-out design and equipment that leaves nothing to be desired, the kitchen invites you to cook, bake and enjoy.

The standard oven is ready for crispy croissants or a delicious casserole after a long day. And the spacious fridge / freezer combination with a total volume of up to 156 l has room for everything - from fresh vegetables to your favourite wine. The clever automatic energy selection always ensures the right temperature - without having to think about it. Whether large or small, compact or spacious. Dethleffs caravans always have the right kitchen on board.

Dethleffs Plus factors: Compact thinking. Conveniently made. The bathroom

A good bathroom on the road is one that doesn't make you miss the one at home. For Dethleffs, this means: no makeshift solutions, but fully-fledged, cleverly integrated bathroom areas - perfectly suited to the respective layout.

  • A fresh start to the day - even in the entry-level class

In the entry-level models, well thought-out compact bathrooms with sinks, electric toilets, mirror surfaces and practical shelves ensure a comfortable start to the day on holiday. If you want to take a shower, you can even choose optional shower equipment in the c’go Active. And the best thing: Even the small bathrooms offer hot water comfort - for a greater sense of well-being, even when travelling.

  • More space, more possibilities: The middle and premium class

The larger models and layouts, such as the Camper, Nomad oder Beduin Scandinavia, offer separate showers in some cases, rear bathrooms that extend across the entire width of the vehicle, windows for ventilation and noticeably more freedom of movement.

  • Popular & proven: The open washing area

The layouts with an open washing area are also particularly popular, for example in the Camper or Nomad 530 FSK, 560 FMK oder 730 FKR. Here you not only have plenty of space for brushing your teeth, but also for showering and changing. The result: More privacy, more comfort - simply more holiday. The bathrooms in Dethleffs caravans are really practical feel-good rooms.

Dethleffs Plus factor: Sleeping comfort in every class

Recovery begins with a good night's sleep. That's why the sleeping area in Dethleffs caravans is not a side show, but the place to relax, dream and recharge your batteries.

  • Well thought out for families

Children love bunk beds - in Dethleffs caravans, of course, with fall protection and their own reading lamp for cosy evenings. Larger families benefit from optional third bunk beds (on transverse bunk bed layouts) and convertible seating lounges, which can be transformed into additional sleeping berths in just a few simple steps. In the c’go up Active you will find maximum sleeping comfort in a minimum of space: Thanks to the standard pull-down bed above the seating lounge, there is space for up to seven people - ideal for families and groups.

  • Beds with extra comfort

Single beds in caravans are particularly popular - not only because of the separate entry and exit, but also because of the flexibility: If desired, they can be transformed into a large sleeping area with an extendable slatted frame.

Those who like to snuggle up together can choose between a classic double bed or the comfortable queen bed, which is accessible from three sides. Double bed layouts are usually more compact - perfect for those who want to save space without sacrificing comfort.

  • More space during the day, full length at night

Particularly clever: In the Beduin Scandinavia , the bed is even adjustable in length. So you can enjoy full sleeping comfort at night - and have more freedom of movement inside during the day.

By the way: In all fixed single and double beds, you will find high-quality 15 cm thick 7-zone cold foam mattresses made of climate-regulating material as standard - on a sturdy wooden slatted bed frame for optimum comfort.

  • Sleep like at home - just with a better view

FAQs about the caravans

  • A caravan is your mobile home on wheels - ideal for anyone who wants to stay flexible when travelling.
Unlike the motorhome, the caravan is not motorised: You tow it with your car, park it at your destination and are then freely mobile - perfect for excursions, shopping or spontaneous trips to the seaside.
Despite its compact dimensions, a caravan offers everything you need for your camping holiday:
Sleeping berths, a small kitchen, a bathroom and plenty of storage space - cleverly integrated and, depending on the model, adapted to couples, families, beach campers or winter campers.

    The advantages at a glance:

    • Flexibility on site: Park the caravan, keep using your car
    • Variety of layouts & equipment: From the compact lightweight to the spacious family model
    • Cheaper than a motorhome: Purchase, insurance and maintenance
    • Individual & cosy: Your permanent retreat - always with you
    • No own engine: You need a towing vehicle with a trailer coupling
    • Ideal for longer stays

A caravan is like a home away from home that adapts to your life.

  • Most Dethleffs caravans are between 213, 233 and 250 cm wide and have an overall height of just over 2.60 and up to 2.82 metres.
The compact series such as the c'joy Active with its narrow width are particularly suitable for narrow roads and lighter towing vehicles, while wider and larger models such as the Beduin Scandinavia convince with more room height and comfort.

  • It depends on the model. Small caravans such as the c'joy Active start at around 6.25 metres overall length, while large family layouts such as the Nomad or Camper 730 FKR reach over 9.40 metres.

  • In principle, almost any car with sufficient towing capacity can tow a caravan - provided it is equipped with a towbar and designed for the permissible total weight of the caravan.
Compact caravans such as the c'joy Active or c'go Active can already be towed by a mid-range car or a smaller SUV.
For larger caravans, you need a more powerful towing vehicle with more power and torque - for example a station wagon, van or off-road vehicle.

What you should look out for in a caravan towing vehicle:

    • Check towing capacity: Pay attention to the permissible towing capacity of your vehicle and compare it with the permissible maximum laden mass of your caravan. Your car must be able to pull the caravan safely - even on inclines or in crosswinds.
    • Unladen weight for more stability: A higher unladen weight of the towing vehicle ensures greater driving stability, especially in strong winds or on winding roads.
    • Torque and engine power: High torque makes starting off easier and ensures superior pulling power - especially on inclines or when the caravan is fully loaded.

Tip: The better your towing vehicle and caravan are matched, the safer, quieter and more comfortable your journey will be.

  • Dethleffs caravans offer a wide variety:

    • Single beds - also suitable for tall people, optionally connectable to form a large sleeping area.
    • Double beds or queen beds - ideal for couples, some accessible from three sides.
    • Bunk beds - perfect for families with children.
    • Pull-down bed (e.g. in the c'go up Active) - provides additional sleeping berths without losing space.

Many seating lounges can also be converted into sleeping berths.

  • Yes - many Dethleffs caravans are self-sufficient or can be equipped accordingly.
With a fresh water tank, wastewater tank, battery and gas supply, you are well equipped for short stays without a power connection.
Solar panels, inverters and compressor fridges make longer stays away from the campsite possible. The capacity of the battery and the size of the solar power system should be matched to your energy requirements - then nothing stands in the way of a camping experience away from the campsite.

  • Whether you have a large family, a patchwork holiday or a trip with friends - Dethleffs offers a wide range of caravans that provide 5, 6 or even up to 8 sleeping berths. Many models combine compact dimensions with well-designed layouts that offer sufficient space and comfort even for larger groups.

Caravan with up to 6 sleeping berths: Ideal for families with several children

    • c'joy Active QLK and c'go Active QSK
      • with bunk beds and cleverly utilised space
    • Nomad and Camper 530 FSK, 540 QMK, 550 ESK and 560 FMK
      • classic family floor plans with plenty of storage space

Caravan with up to 7 sleeping berths:

    • c’go up Active
      • thanks to the standard pull-down bed above the seating lounge, two additional sleeping berths are created

Caravan with up to 8 sleeping berths:

    • Camper 730 FKR and Nomad 730 FKR
      • spacious layouts with bunk beds, large seating lounge - ideal for large families or travelling with friends
  • It all depends on your travelling style - and what is particularly important to you when camping: Flexibility, independence or convenience?
Both caravans and motorhomes have clear advantages - depending on how you want to travel.

When a caravan is the better choice:

    • Fixed camping pitches
Ideal if you're staying at a campsite for a longer period of time and going on day trips from there by car - e.g. to the sea, the city or the mountains.
    • Costs
Caravans are generally cheaper to buy, insure and maintain - because they don't need an engine or complex technology.
    • Space & living comfort
Compared to a motorhome of the same length, they offer more space overall and a more homely spaciousness.
    • Independent car on site
You can use your towing vehicle freely at your destination - practical for shopping, restaurant visits or spontaneous excursions.

When a motorhome is the better choice:

    • Round trips & frequent changes of location
Perfect for road trips - just start, park and sleep. No assembly, no hanging up - ideal for anyone who is often on the move.
    • Self-sufficient & wild camping
Motorhomes are often better suited for free standing away from classic campsites.
    • Manoeuvrability & driving comfort
More compact than a trailer, easier to manoeuvre on narrow roads, ferries or highway service areas.
    • More comfort during breaks when travelling
Everything is at hand, especially in bad weather or with children - you don't have to switch from the car to the living area first.

    Conclusion:
Whether a caravan or motorhome suits you better depends primarily on how and where you want to travel.
If you're staying in one place for a long time and want plenty of space, a caravan is often ideal.
For flexible road trips with frequent changes of location, the motorhome is unbeatable.

  • Yes - some Dethleffs caravans are specially designed for use in the cold season.
Above all the Beduin Scandinavia, which is considered a true winter specialist: with first-class insulation, hot water and floor heating as standard and a body that ensures cosy temperatures even at sub-zero temperatures.

But models such as the Nomad or Camper also offer a very good basis for travelling in spring, autumn and winter, depending on the equipment.

The winter suitability of a caravan essentially depends on several factors:

    •  the insulation of the floor, roof and walls,
    •  a powerful heating system (gas or hot water system),
    •  good ventilation and tightness,
    •  as well as insulated windows and water tanks.

Tip: Not every model is winterproof as standard - however, many Dethleffs caravans can be individually equipped with appropriate winter packages or heating systems
So you can tailor your caravan exactly to your travel plans - whether it's a summer holiday or winter camping in the snow.

  • A properly loaded caravan is not only safer, it is also much quieter to drive. To keep everything in balance when travelling, there are a few basic rules to follow when packing:

    • Weight distribution: Always place heavy objects low and close to the axle. This keeps the caravan stable and reduces the tendency to sway.
    • Mass on the axle & drawbar weight: Neither the permissible mass on the axle nor the maximum drawbar weight may be exceeded. These values can be found in the vehicle documents.
    • Payload capacity: Make sure that the difference between the permissible maximum laden mass and the mass in running order provides enough space for water, gas bottles, supplies and luggage.
    • Additional equipment: Awnings, solar panels, mover or satellite systems increase the weight - so always take these extras into account.
    • Tyre pressure & control: Check the tyre pressure and load before every journey. Insufficient pressure or overloading can significantly impair vehicle handling.
